Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to commonly asked questions about my services.

What types of therapy do you offer?

My approach is integrative, meaning I combine techniques from different therapeutic approaches based on my client’s individual needs. I mostly work with schema therapy techniques, which prioritize understanding and addressing the emotional needs of the client.

How do I book a session with you?

Step 1: Please reach out to me via the contact form or email.

Step 2: Review the information document that will be sent to you.

Step 3: Schedule a free 15-min introductory meeting to see how we can work together.

Step 4: If we're aligned, you can go ahead and schedule your first session.

Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?

Where are your in-person sessions held?

I offer sessions both in person (Leiden, the Netherlands) and online (Zoom).

How often will we have sessions?

We typically schedule weekly sessions, which are crucial, particularly in the initial stages of therapy. Weekly sessions allow us to engage with fresh emotions, leading to faster progress for clients. As therapy progresses and upon mutual agreement, the frequency of sessions may be adjusted to bi-weekly, tri-weekly, and eventually, once a month.

How long does therapy typically last?

Therapy duration varies for each client as it depends on their individual circumstances and needs. Some clients may start feeling significant improvement within six months, while for others, it may take a year or even three years to achieve their desired goals. It's important to recognize that the therapeutic journey is unique for everyone. However, with the type of therapy I practice, which involves deep and comprehensive work such as schema therapy, it often requires a longer duration to delve into underlying issues and foster lasting change.

Will I receive a diagnosis when working with you?

I prioritize understanding each individual's unique experiences and needs rather than solely relying on diagnoses. I firmly believe that every person's journey is complex and deserves personalized attention and care. As such, I do not focus on making diagnoses, but rather on supporting you in exploring and addressing the challenges you face.

I don't have an eating disorder but I struggle with my weight and food. Can I still work with you?

Yes, of course! Whether you're struggling with your weight and food without a diagnosed eating disorder, or you're dealing with other related concerns, please know that you're welcome to work with me. My primary focus is on eating disorders, but I understand that these issues often coexist with various challenges such as depression, trauma, or emotion dysregulation. I'm here to provide support and guidance as you navigate these complexities and work towards healing. Please feel free to reach out to me anytime.

How much does a session cost?

For information regarding session pricing, please feel free to reach out to me at realisticbodytherapist@gmail.com or use the contact form below. I'll be more than happy to provide you with all the details you need.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance as I operate my own private practice and do not have contracts with insurance companies. However, clients are encouraged to contact their insurance company to inquire about possible reimbursement for our sessions.

How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?

You'll know if I'm the right therapist for you based on our initial conversations and your comfort level during our sessions. It's essential to feel understood and supported in therapy, so I encourage you to consider whether you feel heard, valued, and safe sharing with me.

Research suggests that regardless of the therapeutic modality used, the therapeutic relationship is the primary driver of change. Therefore, I prioritize building a strong therapeutic alliance and value being a good fit for my clients' needs and goals.

We are in different time zones. Can we still work together?

Yes, absolutely! I am based in the Central European Time zone, but I work with clients from all around the world.

My child is younger than 18 years old. Can they still work with you?

Unfortunately, I don't work with individuals under the age of 18 as my expertise lies primarily with adult clients. It's important for younger individuals to work with therapists specially trained to meet their unique needs.

Can I reach out to you via DM or email for personalized tips or advice related to my specific situation?

I appreciate your interest in seeking personalized tips, but I'm unable to provide specific advice over DMs or email. As a therapist, it's crucial for me to have a comprehensive understanding of your situation, which can only be achieved through an in-depth assessment during a therapy session. Offering personalized guidance without fully understanding your circumstances could potentially be ineffective or even harmful. My priority is to ensure that you receive the most appropriate support tailored to your unique needs, which is why I encourage scheduling a session where we can explore your concerns in a safe and confidential environment.
